Description

The Cambridge GCE A Level Geography syllabus is designed to enable students to explain and understand the geographical world around them. This highly valued qualification will evidence both students' understanding of key theoretical principles and practical skills.

 

The Cambridge IGCSE Geography syllabus enables students to progress on to a Degree at university.

 

Assessment

Teacher assessments are continuous during LIVE TAUGHT lessons, marking of coursework and assignments and summative tests.

 

Homework

Homework will be given at the end of each week, usually in the form of problems to solve, researching key concepts.

 

Reporting

Students have 24 /7 access to all of their resources and coursework.

Additionally the school holds 3 parent consultaions per year - one each term.

 

The Teacher

Hi. I am Head of Geography at Cambridge Home School. I am a qualified secondary school teacher (PGCE) and educated to

Masters level. I have many years of teaching experience in Geography and I am passionate about getting the most out of my

pupils.

 

I know about how exam boards work as I am an examiner for most of the larger ones. This is clearly advantageous to helping my students

target high value criteria and in ensuring they attain their potential.

 

 

COURSE OUTLINE

The course will follow the current Cambridge International Exam (CIE) 9696 specifications.

The course will be based on the textbooks recommended for the CIE A Levels.

This specification is well-regarded among colleges and universities as it is well-rounded allowing learners to have a grasp of all aspects of human and physical geography giving a firm basis from which to springboard into A-level and beyond.

Rocks and weathering

 

The Human Core

Population

Migration

Settlement dynamics

 

Paper 2. Advanced Physical Geography Options

Tropical environments

Coastal environments

Hazardous environments

Arid and semi-arid environments

Candidates study two of the above environments.

 

Paper 3. Advanced Human Geography Options

Production, location and change

Environmental management

Global interdependence

Economic transition

Candidates study two of the above topics.

Equipment

All students will require a pencil, ruler (30cm), eraser, pencil sharpener, black/blue pen, red biro, green biro, pencil crayons (minimum - red, blue, green, brown, black, purple, orange, yellow, pink), a pair of compasses, a piece of string (30cm) and a protractor.
