What is online schooling?

Online schooling is a system of education where students attend a school that is online. Online schools work in exactly the same way as conventional schools with assemblies, real classes taught by qualified teachers, timetables, break times, homework, after school clubs, competitions and school trips. Online schooling is a popular alternative to conventional schooling. During the Covid 19 pandemic millions of students were forced to learn online. Tens of thousands of parents discovered that their children learn much better online and attained higher grades. Many commentators and education experts believe that the pandemic accelerated an inevitable shift to online schools for particular kinds of student who are not sufficiently catered for in the conventional school system.

Particularly suited to higher ability learners, online schooling allows students to attend classes from the safety, convenience and comfort of their own home. Students aren’t required to sit in a physical classroom in a conventional school miles away from home. They can simply set up their online classes on their computer, laptop, or tablet from home or from anywhere there is an internet connection.

Most parents who choose online schooling do so because their child is motivated to learn but find learning challenging in conventional schools. These common challenges include noisy classrooms where the teacher is difficult to hear, students unable to see the whiteboard, large class sizes, teachers pre-occupied with teaching lower-ability students, non-specialist teachers, support assistants teaching lessons, poor behaviour, distractions, intimidation, bullying, social pressure and anxiety.

Why should I choose CHS for my children?

Established in 2002 (3 years before Youtube), Cambridge Home School Online was among the very first online schools in the UK. The school is one of the most trusted selective online schools across the globe. Trust is everything when choosing your child’s school! A school is more than a nice website! 90% of online schools have sprung up since the Covid 19 pandemic and do not have a track record of success. Parents should be very careful about entrusting their child’s education to start-up schools. Cambridge Home School Online boasts:

  • A small classroom size (8–10 pupils per group).
  • Individualised support and guidance to each student.
  • One-on-one success coaching and pastoral support to each student.
  • A well-rounded, independent, and interdisciplinary curriculum.
  • A vast online library of educational resources (videos, presentations, study guides, past papers, activities, worksheets, etc.)
  • Advanced and secure online learning software systems that utilise cutting-edge audio-visual technology.
  • Scholarships and bursaries to exceptional students in need of funding.
What is flexi-schooling (hybrid schooling)? Does CHS offer it?

Flexi-schooling (flexible schooling) and hybrid schooling refer to the same approach. Students at CHS are offered time out of lessons (by prior agreement) to pursue sports and enterprises or additional study opportunities. Video-recorded lessons allow all students to review lessons at any time so catching up and revision is easy.

Is CHS a British international school?

Yes, Cambridge Home School Online are based in Cambridge UK and offer Cambridge international GCSEs and A Level qualifications. The school provides a quality British online education to students living in the UK, Europe (including Western Russia), Africa, the Middle East, and Central Asia. The time difference between the students’ home and UK time must be conducive to studying a UK timetable of LIVE lessons. The school requires that all students are wide awake and ready for learning.

Which ages are most appropriate for online schooling?

Online schooling is suitable for students above the age of 6. Cambridge home school online provide online lessons to students aged 7–19. Four homeschooling programs are offered; Primary Prep/Key Stage 2 (ages 7 to 10), Lower School/Key Stage 3 (ages 11 to 13), Upper School/IGCSEs (ages 14 to 16), and Sixth Form/AS & A-Levels (ages 17 to 19).

What is the difference between conventional and online school?

Conventional school is organised at a physical location. Students are required to commute to and from school which can mean students arrive stressed, late and tired. They receive lessons in physical classrooms that are often distributed across a large complicated campus which are often stressful to get to in the minimal time available. This movement between physical classes is disruptive, noisy and stressful for many students. This time away from teachers is also an opportunity for poor behaviour and even bullying. Physical classrooms are often noisy, disruptive and distracting. Physical classrooms also make behaviour management a challenge for teachers. Physical classrooms are the perfect stage for classroom clowns and for overly dramatic exchanges and conflicts. Physical classrooms make differentiation in mixed-ability groups particularly challenging resulting in higher-ability and lower-ability students not receiving the special attention they need. The teacher is not aware of raised hands if they are supporting individual students in one corner of a physical classroom, students stop holding up their hand when they realise the teacher can’t see them or they shout and scream for attention adding to poor behaviour and a noisy, stressful learning environment.

Online school eradicates all of the disadvantages of a physical classroom. Students interact with their teachers and peers through their computer/laptop/tablet screen. Teachers are always in the right place to support students and there is no space for poor behaviour meaning classes are quiet, controlled and stress-free.

At Cambridge home school online, advanced online learning software systems and audio-visual elements are utilised to make classes engaging, stimulating, and retentive. All lessons are video-recorded so students need not waste valuable lesson time taking notes they often can’t read. The school’s vast archive of video-recorded lessons makes catch-up and revision for examinations a breeze. This approach makes online schooling a great choice for students between the ages of 7 and 19.

All of these advantages mean that Cambridge home school online students are happy and confirdent. Consequently Cambridge home school online students attain significantly higher grades and progress to better Universities.

Which curriculum does CHS use?

Cambridge home school online use an independent curriculum. As British education specialists, the faculty believe that the national curriculum is too prescriptive and subject to political turbulence. It also fails to cover curricular breadth and depth, which are imperative for the highest academic success.

The school’s Masters and Phd qualified subject specialist teachers have created an independent, well-rounded, and interdisciplinary curriculum that is free of the limitations of the national curriculum while retaining its important elements. The school’s track record reflects the success of a broader and deeper curriculum. By providing students a curricular advantage, top grades and a cherished place at top universities is achieved.

Can online school help improve my children’s grades?

Yes, online school helps academically able students perform better in class and on their examinations. CHS keep the student-teacher ratio low with less than 10 students in the average class. CHS students receive more one-on-one attention from their teachers, which helps them absorb and retain more knowledge. They sit their examinations with a clear understanding of concepts and with confidence.

CHS also uses an independent curriculum and advanced online learning software systems to further improve the learning experience. Focused on academic excellence, MA/Msc/PhD qualified subject specialist teachers closely track each student’s progress. Their weaknesses are identified and addressed and strengths enhanced. The school’s quality targeted education and timely support help students perform better than pupils of a similar ability that don’t have these advantages.

Will my children pay attention to their online classes?

CHS use a set of unique strategies to help students of different ages pay attention in class. The school understands that younger students have a lower attention span. CHS teachers hold and retain their attention by using cutting-edge audio-visual elements, planning fun in-class activities, scheduling group presentations, and playing skills-building games. Common distractions that are rife in conventional classrooms; poor behaviour, bullying, classroom clowns and unwanted noise are non-existent in CHS online classes.

For older students, CHS make the classes more interactive, stimulating, and participatory. Students are immersed in their lessons and their attention is consistently and carefully sustained. The school’s MA/Msc/PhD qualified subject specialist teachers are provided extensive training in mastering this skill. If students get distracted at any point, they’re promptly brought to attention.

The school’s focused approach helps ensure that each student remains engrossed in their lessons at all times. This significantly improves the learning experience and learning outcomes

Is online school free?

No, online school isn’t free. However, it’s considerably more affordable than conventional independent and private school (c. half the fees). CHS online’s selective independent school has a balanced fee structure. CHS annual fees are just £9,450 GBP for Lower School (Key Stage 3), Upper School (IGCSEs), and Sixth Form (A Levels). Some comparable selective independent schools would charge this fee per term/semester!

Primary Prep School fees are £5,000 GBP. For more information, please take a closer look at the school’s annual school fees structure.

Can I choose online school for my children as a working parent?

Yes absolutely! Most CHS parents are highly qualified working professionals who choose the school both for its academic rigor and the understanidng it shows to their busy lifestyles. As a parent, you will not be required to intervene during your child’s classes or support their learning if your child is beyond Prep age 7 – 10 years. Online learning teaches children from an early age to become independent learners who are able to organise themselves and overcome issues with minimal supervision or instruction. Independent learners are what top universities and top employers are seeking. CHS teachers deliver engaging, stimulating, and focused lessons that are easy to follow. As a result, students pay close attention to their lessons, stay on track, grow in confidence and succeed.

CHS parents are able to work and live their lives without worrying about frequently checking in on their child.
