At Cambridge Primary Prep School our curriculum covers a wide range of subjects including Maths, English, Science, Topic, Art and Design and PSHE.
We build upon children’s prior learning, allowing them to become creative, critical thinkers. Knowledge, skills and concepts are well-developed in an age-appropriate and progressive way from Year 3 to Year 6 so that the children’s skills and understanding are extended and built upon, year after year.
Our Cambridge-based Prep School delivers daily online lessons via Microsoft Teams at times that are appropriate to families in Europe, the Middle East and Asia. Our fun and engaging lessons are taught in the mornings to ensure that children are alert and ready to learn and to enable parents to work if they need to. Parents of very young children may need to be available to support their child until they are confident and settled with online lessons.
We have high expectations of all our pupils. Our curriculum design ensures that the needs of individual children can be met within the environment of high-quality teaching. Enjoyment of the curriculum promotes achievement, confidence and good behaviour. Pupils’ progress is assessed using the rubric below in a similar way to the English National Curriculum. Assessing pupils in a similar way to the English National Curriculum makes integration from English conventional schools seamless.
At Cambridge Home School’s Primary Prep School, we expect and appreciate supportive parents who are committed to being present during their child’s education. As an online school, we recognise the importance of support for children at home, so it is extremely important that this commitment is met by you, as parents, to ensure your child progresses in their academic ability. It is evident from the video below, that online school is not limited to staring at a computer screen. Pupils are encouraged to make creative projects and continue their education outside of their lessons within our many extra-curricular clubs.

Parents are responsible for their children’s safety at home of course, but Prep pupils generally need very little supervision after a short period of adjustment. That said, it’s a good idea to be available for the rare times your child may need your help with the computer or other challenges, especially with younger Prep pupils.
In term time, Prep students have three hour-long lessons every day, Monday to Friday. These lessons start at 9am, and finish and 12.30pm UK time, with 15 minute breaks in between. Every day they study Literacy, Maths and Topic. The Topic subject varies depending on the day of the week and the term, but all major Key Stage 2 subjects are covered – Science, History, Geography, Art, PSHE etc. Pupils will also have assignments to complete in their own time. This timetable leaves plenty of time for fresh air, exercise and following your own interests.
Our Prep school starts with ‘Prep 3’ which is equivalent to ‘Year 3’ in the British curriculum, where children are aged 7-8. We will consider accepting younger children on a case by case basis if they are extremely academically able. Children must be mature enough to cope with long periods of time learning online, and must be able to use the appropriate software independently.

Yes, Cambridge Home School Online provides a quality British online education to students living in the UK, Europe (including Western Russia), Africa, the Middle East, and Central Asia. The time difference between the students’ home and UK time must be conducive to studying a UK timetable of LIVE lessons. The school requires that all students are wide awake and ready for learning.
Yes, they do. And they will need to be able to speak, read and write in English (appropriate to their age) fluently. It’s very important to us that your child can access the curriculum and take part in their lessons with no language issues holding them back from effective teaching and learning. If your child does not have English as a first language, but you consider them to be fluent, we will arrange to have an informal chat and will assess their language skills as part of the admissions process.
Once your child’s online classes end for the day they can join their school friends in over 20 FREE extra-curricular clubs, allowing busy parents the time to continue working should the need arise. Our students also take part in various enterprises, house competitions, presentations, study groups and peer mentoring. There are multiple ways in which our students form strong friendships with one another, including meeting up in the holidays with parental consent. In fact, the opportunity to make friends in international locations is a wonderful advantage for CHS students.
CHS uses a set of unique strategies to help students of different ages pay attention in class. The school understands that younger students have a lower attention span. CHS teachers hold and retain their attention by using cutting-edge audio-visual elements, planning fun in-class activities, scheduling group presentations, and playing skills-building games. Common distractions that are rife in conventional classrooms; poor behaviour, bullying, classroom clowns and unwanted noise, are non-existent in CHS online classes.
For older students, CHS makes the classes more interactive, stimulating, and participatory. Students are immersed in their lessons and their attention is consistently and carefully sustained. If students get distracted at any point, they’re promptly brought to attention and you are kept informed as to participation and progress.

Yes, online school helps academically able students perform better in class and in their eventual examinations. We can do this by keeping the student-teacher ratio low with less than 10 students in the average class. CHS students receive more one-on-one attention from their teachers, which helps them absorb and retain more knowledge. Recorded lessons, online resources, internal assessments and feedback are all geared towards our students gaining the confidence, knowledge and skills necessary to perform at their own personal best.
